A few details about greyhounds ...
* Greyhounds have lived with people since ancient times and love being with people. * Greyhounds are sight hounds and can see objects up to 1km away. * Greyhounds love going for trips in the car and are usually excellent travellers. * Greyhounds have very little body fat. This means they need special anaesthetic if they have an operation. This also affects their ability to cope with extremes of heat and cold. * Greyhounds can reach speeds of almost 70kph in under 5 seconds. Because of this they must never be tied to a kennel or any other fixed object. * Although Greyhounds are very fast, they do not require a lot of exercise - a moderate 30 minute walk and a race around the garden a couple of times a day is usually sufficient. * Greyhounds have larger hearts, higher blood pressure and more red blood cells than other dogs and should never carry excess weight. They have been bred to be sleek and fast. * In a race a greyhound can pump its entire body weight in blood around its body in just one minute.
