We work to increase the number of greyhounds rehomed after racing. We encourage prospective adopters and ensure that they understand greyhounds and their needs.
Learn about Greyhounds
If you are interested in adopting a retired greyhound, then the first step is for you to find out as much as possible about greyhounds. Even though we think they are wonderful dogs, they are not for everyone. The following book is highly recommended:

Home Visit
If, after speaking with us, you are keen to proceed then we will visit your home, bringing along one of our pet greyhounds. You will be able to see how a greyhound might fit into your home.

Meeting Your Greyhound
We work with trainers to find a greyhound that will be a good match for you. We accompany you to visit suitable dogs. You are able to trial your chosen greyhound to see how it fits in. If you wish, we will be present when you bring the dog home.
Follow up
After you have adopted your greyhound we will follow up with phone calls and, if desired, a visit. We will support you and your greyhound, helping while your dog is settling in.
Refundable Placement Fee (from 15 August 2011)
It is important to us that we find good, stable homes for as many dogs as possible. From 15 August 2011 Hounds 4 Homes will charge a refundable placement fee of $200 when you decide to take your chosen greyhound on trial. This fee goes part way to defraying the costs associated with rehoming greyhounds. On request, Hounds 4 Homes will refund this fee in full once your greyhound has been successfully living with you for six months. After this six month period, you have 30 days to request the refund of the placement fee. Unclaimed fees will go directly towards helping greyhounds.
